I was so excited to get my hands on this when it was released, and dived in as quick as I could! I love The Thursday Murder Club gang, and was happy to see them back again.

The new additions were very welcome, and I hope to see more of them in the future books (YES Osman has signed for 3 more Thursday Murder Club stories!!!!). I think this one was the best one yet, so I have high hopes for the next one. 

I love Elizabeth, she’s so matter of fact and to the point isn’t she. I was glad to see her acing a little more turmoil than usual (yeah you’d think that wouldn’t be possible wouldn’t you), but the kill or be killed mission was a hell of a mission. I loved it, I love the whole gang, and can just imagine them really sitting trying to figure out old unsolved murders.

Read it, you ll love it I’m sure! 

The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman

It's the following Thursday.

Elizabeth has received a letter from an old colleague, a man with whom she has a long history. He’s made a big mistake, and he needs her help. His story involves stolen diamonds, a violent mobster, and a very real threat to his life.

As bodies start piling up, Elizabeth enlists Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron in the hunt for a ruthless murderer. And if they find the diamonds too? Well, wouldn't that be a bonus?

But this time they are up against an enemy who wouldn't bat an eyelid at knocking off four septuagenarians. Can The Thursday Murder Club find the killer (and the diamonds) before the killer finds them?

I received a copy of this from the publisher Penguin on Netgalley in return for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the first Thursday Murder Club so was very much looking forward to the next one. And it certainly didn’t disappoint. I even enjoyed this one a little better than the first! 

The Thursday Murder Club are a fab bunch of folk. I would love to be friends with them, I can imagine the conversations and tea would be great. Joyce is by far my favourite character, she’s hilarious and made me laugh out loud a few times. 

So in this book, Elizabeth gets a letter from someone important from her past, and her detective/MI5 intuitions jump up and she dives in head first to solving the situation. It’s so funny, and you read some of the situations like ‘what is she doing?!’, but you know it’s just Elizabeth being Elizabeth,and it works!

It’s so unreal that its brilliant, and I hope to whoever needs to be hoped to, that Richard Osman does another book. If you like fun reads, with some random twists, grab this book!

The Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman

I was at lunch, this is two or three months ago, and it must have been a Monday, because it was shepherd’s pie. Elizabeth said she could see that I was eating, but wanted to ask me a question about knife wounds, if it wasn’t inconvenient?

I said, ‘Not at all, of course, please,’ or words to that effect. I won’t always remember everything exactly, I might as well tell you that now. So she opened a manila folder, and I saw some typed sheets and the edges of what looked like old photographs. Then she was straight into it.

Elizabeth asked me to imagine that a girl had been stabbed with a knife. I asked what sort of knife she  had been stabbed with, and Elizabeth said probably just a normal kitchen knife. John Lewis. She didn’t say that, but that was what I pictured.

In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet up once a week to investigate unsolved killings.

But when a local property developer shows up dead, 'The Thursday Murder Club' find themselves in the middle of their first live case.

The four friends, Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron, might be octogenarians, but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer, before it's too late?

This book has been on my radar for ages, I seen all the amazing reviews etc on Twitter and Instagram, so I know I’d be buying it at some point. But my lovely husband bought me it for Christmas, so it had to be my first read of 2021.

The first thought I had while reading this was it made me think it’s just something my Grandad would do haha! A group of friends in a retirement home diggin up old unsolved murders and trying to figure it out themselves. It’s brilliant, and they are a real bunch of characters. I loved the characters, even though there seemed to be quite a few and I sometimes forgot who was who! But the main group were great. I laughed a few times out loud, and smiled a lot more. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron were the main lot, and were all quiet comical. There was a lot of very slight humour there which I loved, little snippets of something funny. And some rather literal comments too which reminded me of my kids,

The police officers Donna and Chris were good characters, but I wasn’t sure if it would have been that easy for the Thursday Murder Club to have won Donna over and get in on the evidence of the murder enquiry. I guess that’s why it’s fiction though.

The murder mystery, I didn’t guess at all, I kept changing my mind throughout as to who I thought the murderer was, and there was quite a few to choose from!

I did enjoy this and gave it 4 stars, I would recommend it!
