Book Tag - Resolutions Books

 Hi!

I was tagged by the lush Emma over at Em And Her Books to do the Resolution Book Tag, which she was originally tagged in by Mikaela at Mikaela Reads. This is a tag inspired by your New Years Resolutions. I don’t really have any to add myself so I have went with the ones Mikaela found, the mot common resolutions.

1. Exercise more - Name a book that has made you want to jump out of your seat (for any reason)

The Sanatorium by Sarah Pearse

This book is brilliant. I was jumping out of my seat in rage and shock at the amount of twists there was, even my husband at one point asked me what was wrong with me as I kept gasping and moving around! Elin and her boyfriend are invited to a wedding in a huge hotel up in the Swiss Alps, this hotel used to be a Sanatorium, and things start to happen and get a bit weird. A lonely hotel high up in the mountains, and a snow storm they can’t escape... yeah not freaky at all!

2. Get Organised - A book with an exceptional plot

The Road by Cormac McCarthy

This one I remember had me gripped so much. It’s a brilliant book about a dystopian world, a father and his son just trying to make their way through it and stay alive. It’s bleak, and heartbreaking but it is such an amazing read. 

3. Learn a New Skill - A book which taught you something

The Unwrapping of Theodora Quirke by Caroline Smailes

A different one, but after (and during actually) reading this I was googling things quite a bit. The unwrapping of Theodora Quirke tells the story of Theo who meets St Nick, and goes off on a little adventure. But this isn’t Santa as we know him, it’s based on the real story of Saint Nicholas of Myra, and I just ad to know more about it. I didn’t know anything I found out so I was really intrigued. Have a look too if you don’t know the story, and how he story of Saint Nicolas of Myra turned into the story of Santa Claus.

4. Live Life To The Fullest - A book which inspired you

Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart

Oh I don’t know what else to say about this one except I love it! But as for inspiring me, it made me want to know more about this era, and want to rad more stories set in the same times and place. Shuggie is set in Glasgow back in the 80s, and although it wasn’t really that long ago (I was born in the 80s), it’s so different. The people seem different, the houses, the poverty. God, Shuggie stole my heart, so if you know any other books similar please let me know. 

5. Save More Money/Spend Less Money - the most expensive book you’ve bought and was it worth it? 

The Little Mermaid and other stories Minalima Edition

The Little Mermaid is my all time favourite fairy tale and I love any story similar, so retellings too. When I first saw the MinaLima edition I knew I had to had this one. Luckily I got National Book Tokens for my birthday so I bought it with those, £20 though!! So this is the most I’ve spent on a book as I usually grab books in the sale, or don’t usually go over £15 a the most.

6. Spend More Time With Family and Friends - a character you would want to be best mates with

Matilda by Roald Dahl

Who doesn’t love Matilda?! She’s a lovely girl who loves to read, who wouldn’t want to be her best mate! 

7. Travel More - a book with a location you’d love to visit

The Phone Box at the Edge of the World by Laura Imai Messina

Set in Japan, this book is just gorgeous. The Phone Box is actually a real thing (google it, Wind Telephone Japan), and the book was based around that. I’d love to go to Japan for plenty of reasons (a lot of them include food), but I’d love to visit the Phone Box too. 

8. Read More - a book you are desperate to read this year

The Illustrated Child by Polly Crosby

This has been on my radar for a while now, I just keep forgetting to buy it. I think it’s because I entered so many competitions over Christmas to win a copy (and never did), so I’ve just bought a copy. Hopefully I’ll get round to reading it soon. I’ve heard amazing things and can’t wait!
